BRDC Formula 4 pre-season test

24/04/2013

Lanan Racing's Jake Hughes went fastest in today's official BRDC Formula 4 test session on the Snetterton 300 circuit, setting his best time during the final 15 minutes of the afternoon. The Warwickshire driver set a time of 1:51.009s, finishing ahead of morning pace-setter Jake Dalton, driving for Mark Godwin Racing, and privateer Matt Bell.

Mexican Diego Menchaca, running with Mark Godwin Racing, showed consistent pace to set the fourth fastest time of the day ahead of HHC's Charlie Robertson and Douglas Motorsport's Sennan Fielding.

Gustavo Lima was seventh in his HHC Motorsport car, showing a considerable three second improvement on his earlier morning session time. Pietro Fittipaldi, grandson of F1 legend Emerson was classified eighth fastest in his MGR machine ahead of SWR's Matthew Graham. American Falco Wauer rounded out the top ten for Team KBS.

Jake Hughes commented: "After today I think I can definitely challenge for wins. Points are ultimately the main objective but I'm going to be trying to get the most points coming away from the first round.

"It was good to have a first chance to see where everyone is in terms of time, and I think we progressed well throughout the day, switching from used to new tyres to try different set ups, and towards the end of the day I think we found a set up which suits me well. The lap wasn't perfect though and there's still more time to come - I think I could have gone even quicker!

"I'm really impressed with the way the championship is run and Jonathan Palmer, Derek Warwick, the BRDC and MSV have done an absolutely fantastic job. I've been looking around at the paddock and it's just miles above anything else would be at this level so I'm really pleased with the choice I've made in coming to the BRDC F4 Championship."

A total of 18 cars participated in today's test, with the Hillspeed team unable to attend due to a road traffic accident yesterday affecting their transporter truck, which fortunately left all parties unhurt.
