BRDC Formula 4 2014 - Snetterton

23/06/2014

While his big brother Jolyon was flying the flag for Comma in Austria and extending his lead in the GP2 Series championship, Comma-sponsored 16 year old Will Palmer was also making fresh history in the Snetterton rounds of the BRDC Formula 4 championship on the weekend of June 21/22nd.

Having shown his winning potential with a 2013 Formula 4 Winter series victory at Brands Hatch, young master Will produced mature, top drawer performances to record his maiden main-season Formula 4 win in Saturday's Race 1 on the Norfolk circuit, convert an eighth place grid start into sixth place in Race 2, and then do the weekend double with a lights to flag victory in Race 3. In the process, he became only the third driver - after Charlie Robertson in 2013 and George Russell at Silverstone earlier this season – to win two BRDC Formula 4 races in the same weekend. Along the way, he also established a new record – 86 – for the number of championship points scored in a single Formula 4 triple-header event.

Palmer's fruitful weekend work for the HHC Motorsport team promotes him to third in the BRDC Formula 4 championship table, ten points behind team-mate Raoul Hyman - who kept his title challenge on course with second place in Race 1 and third in Race 3 - and 31 points behind championship leader George Russell of Lanan racing who similarly kept his points clock ticking over nicely with third place podiums in Races 1 and 2 and sixth in Race 3.
Russell's team-mate, Arjun Maini scored a resounding maiden Formula 4 victory from pole position in Race 2, adding eighth in Race 1 and fourth in Race 3 to boost his points and slot in just six points behind Palmer in the championship table. HHC's Sennan Fielding took fourth in Race 1 and second in Race 3 to be in fifth championship spot at the end of proceedings.

HHC Motorsport were comfortably top of the Snetterton team contest, claiming five of the nine available podium positions during the weekend, including a clean sweep of Race 3.
"It's been an amazing weekend," said Palmer. "I almost got pole yesterday, a great win in race one and now another win today, it's absolutely fantastic. I have to say a huge thanks to the team. HHC have given me a fantastic car this weekend and for the team to get a 1-2-3 result is a massive achievement. I've been getting stronger with each round and Snetterton is a good track for me. We're at Oulton Park next, where I've already tested, and it's been a good track for me as well. Hopefully we can have another good weekend there and aim for another win to continue my title challenge."

Comma is Technical Partner to BRDC Formula 4, and in addition to sponsoring Will Palmer in the 24 race series, supplies Comma brand lubricants, coolants and maintenance chemicals to all teams competing in the championship. All rounds of the BRDC F4 Championship are broadcast free-to-air on ITV 4 in an hour-long standalone show screened one week after each of the eight events in a prime-time Sunday evening slot. Coverage on ITV4 will also include a further weekday evening repeat.
